A phenomena that I have personally witnessed and has been corroborated by the observations of others is the Phoenix Black Hole Effect.  People who stay in Phoenix longer than a week never leave.  Something happens, the illusion that they have found a truly great place to live, a family emergency, the loss or gain of job that ultimately goes bust, or some other unforeseeable event causes them to stay, apparently for the rest of their lives.

I have tried four times to get out of Arizona and each time something happens to cause me to return. Even departing with $2,000.00 in the bank wasn't good enough.
